As the 4th-largest credit union in Virginia, Northwest Federal Credit Union has a fast-growing customer base whose demographic is quickly shifting to include more millennials who are accustomed to banking with digital-first organizations. NWFCU needed to create new websites for 6 of its organizations, including NWFCU, Realtors FCU, NWFCU Foundation, NW Capital Management, and NW Financial Advisors.
Of the many issues to consider, the variety of users that would be interacting with the websites was a major consideration when designing the interface. NWFCU has both consumer and business audiences, and reaches many demographics, from young professionals to those reaching retirement. In addition, the content needs of the different organizations vary greatly. For instance, while rates information plays prominently on the (2) credit union sites (NWFCU and RealtorsFCU), it doesn’t apply on the foundation site or some of the others. Because of this, we needed to structure flexible page templates that maintain consistency while allowing a wide variety of content to be displayed.
Carousel30 began working with Northwest Federal Credit Union in late 2015 on a plan for a 6-website CMS architecture that would house their (2) credit unions, insurance agency, capital management group, financial advisors, and nonprofit foundation.
Our recommendation of the Drupal CMS was taken and we worked with the organization to design a website that allows the flexibility for each brand to utilize its distinct branding, while maintaining brand and UX consistency across the entities. We also created a system with easy to maintain rates information (which needs to be updated frequently) across pages on the site, an account login, and responsive design that allows all content to be displayed in an optimal way on smartphones and tablets.
